Course content of training:

- Life cycles of crop pests of cotton, pigeon pea, chick pea, vegetables

    and fruit crops.

- IPM of different crop pests.

- Efficacy of various botanical extracts against different crop pests

- Preparation of spray solutions of botanicals.

Details of Demonstrations conducted under the project-

- Field demonstrations conducted for testing the  efficacy of botanical

   extracts  with certain   concentrations

- The beneficiaries could themselves  prepare extracts of chilli ,garlic,

  tobacco,neem seeds,etc.at their home

- Demonstrations helped the farmers to use locally available resources

and they could considerably  reduce the cost of plant protection

- More emphasis on Farmer’s clubs and SHGs  to involve in the programme

- No. of beneficiaries covered under the demonstration – 543 No.

- Area covered under the demonstration – 200 Ha.

Overall impact of the project on the target population:

1.   The beneficiaries selected in project have gained the full  confidence of

using the   home made botanical extracts  for plant protection

2.   The beneficiaries of the project have started the collection and

storage of seeds of neem and  custard apple for preparing their extracts.

3.   The adoption of neem oil is 90% amongst the project beneficiaries.

4    The technology is spreading towards the neighboring farmers and

thus diffusion of the technology is good.

5.  Most notable changes observed in the vicinity of the target population

is adoption of organic farming in which they have given considerable

      importance to botanical pesticides.

6.  There is an increased demand from the farmers  for supply of neem

     oil through KVK.

7. The Farmers Clubs and Women Self Help Groups have shown

greater acceptance towards the production and application of

botanical extracts for pest management and thus the group

activity is helpful for dissemination of the technology to other farmers.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT

1.Development of 10 resource persons in each village for IPM

2.Formation of three groups involved in production of botanical pesticides

3.Reduction of cost of plant protection by 60%

4.Increased interest in farmers regarding production of organic produce.

5.Increased awareness about ill-effects of chemicals on health and environment.

6.Enhanced level of awareness on collection, storage of botanical seeds and

production of extracts to be utilized for plant protection.

7.Visit of farmers from other villages to IPM plots in Dadh village

8.Improved socio-economic status of IPM farmers in the villages

9.Change in attitude of farmers in the vicinity of the target population in adopting

   eco-friendly plant protection practices.

10.The annual income o the selected beneficiaries has been changed about

      Rs.3000-5000/-

Estabilshment of Vermicompost units-
As per the target for the first year 100 vermicompost and vermiculture production units have started in the selected village and accordingly the farmers are utilizing the compost prepared out of these units for their crops. The neighboring farmers are also convinced regarding the benefits of the vermicompost and some of them approached to the KVK for the technical details of the production units.
Other extension activities-

1.Kisan mela-.

2.Field Day-

3.Exposure Visit- -

4.Shivarpheri-

Significant achievements so far-

1. Incidence of Spodoptera on organic soybean observed only 2-3% as against

    7-8%I in chemically treated plots.

2. No incidence of wilt was noticed in organic soybean plots where seed

    treatment with Trichoderma was done.

3. Spray of vermiwash helped to reduce the micronutrient deficiencies particularly

    in soybean,onion and pomegranate..

4. Bio-fertilizer treatment helped to improve the germination percentages.

5. Custard apple extract spray show significant result against stem fly in soybean

while in control plot even one or two sprays of chemical pesticides did not give

    proper control.

6. Pearl millet as mixed crop in Soybean gave 2-3 qt. yield /acre as a

additional income besides working as a bird perches..

7.  Increased demand for vermicompost from the beneficiaries along with other

     farmers from the neighboring villages

8. In cotton bio-pesticides and botanical pesticides spray show increases

    numbers of parasites and predators.

9. There is an increased demand from the farmers for supply of neem oil

pheromone traps and vermicompost  through the KVK.

10. Most notable changes observed in the vicinity of the target population is

adoption of mulching  in sugarcane, production and use of home made

botanical extracts .bird perches in gram and production of vermicompost.

Results-

Changes in soil properties
After commencement of the project  the components like compost, green manures, vermicompost, bio-fertilizers, different cakes have been continuously adopted for three years in the field. Similarly proper water management and application of organic slurry also helped to change the soil properties. which is given in table ! .:
