PROBLEMS OF AHMEDNAGAR DISTRICT

        

Before preparation of action plan, KVK identifies enterprise-wise and commodity-wise problems faced by the farming communities by adopting POIN tools. Some of the enterprisewise problems faced by the farming community are mentioned below:

Enterprise - Agriculture

  1. Severe attack of heliothis on Red gram, Cotton and Bengal gram

  2. Low yield in oilseed and pulses

  3. Reddening in cotton

  4. Low yield in sugarcane under saline and alkaline soils

  5. Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides

  6. Unassured irrigation and water stress

Enterprise - Horticulture

  1. Heavy attack of pest and diseases in vegetables

  2. Heavy use of chemicals and fertilizers for vegetables and fruit crops

  3. Wilt in pomegranate

  4. Nematode attack in brinjal, okra and other vegetables

  5. Nutritional deficiencies in fruit crops

  6. Flower dropping in vegetables

  7. Marketing of fruits and vegetables

Enterprise – Animal Husbandry and Dairying

  1. Low fat percentage in crossbred cows

  2. Breeding problems in milch cows and in buffaloes

  3. Low yield in local goat and poultry

  4. Mastitis in cows

  5. Mortality in goat kids

Other Problems

  1. Unemployment in rural youth

  2. Poor participation of women in agriculture

  3. Unavailability of critical inputs regarding recent developed technologies

  4. Unorganized farming community

  5. Skill and information about new enterprise

  6. Unavailability of timely credit
