KVK Babhaleshwar is the first KVK in Maharashtra who introduce a new enterprise i.e. Spirulina production for self employment generation in rural area. KVK started demonstration unit of Spirulina and design a course on “Spirulina production and processing technology” to rural youth for self employment generation. ,
KVK has been conducted 4 courses of spirulina production, processing and uses for the 115 trainees. Out of these 23 trainees developed a Spirulina culture and multiplied in small cement tank, 2 trainee started commercial cultivation of Spirulina in Dhule and Mumbai. One trainee from Andhra Pradesh started Spirulina production in 9 rectangular tanks. Awareness about use of spirulina in daily diet for food supplement as well as for medicinal used is spreading horizontaly. During this year about 26 beneficiaries purchase Spirulina for self-consumption. Daily consumption of Spirulina observed control sugar level of diabetes patient.
